Description: NEDlab is a 2.5D particle and field simulation featuring an intuitive, graphical user interface. Complex geometry is easily input using commercially available drawing programs, by scanning images, or using NEDlab’s own Mesh Editor mouse driven tools. Users can switch between Cartesian or cylindrical symmetry with the click of a button. Multi-species particle-in-cell, ray trace, or hybrid fluid solvers are included. Particle emission from irregularly shaped surfaces or volumes can be flexibly specified. All phase space plots (transverse and longitudinal) are available immediately. Time-dependent (Maxwell’s equations), electrostatic or quasi-electrostatic (LaPlace, Poisson, Poisson-Boltzmann) field solvers are included. Time-dependent (sinosoidal) applied voltages can be applied to arbitrary antenna geometries. Fields can be displayed using vector, color map, and contour plots. NEDlab also includes the capability to export particle and field data in ASCII format for post analysis. Highly interactive problem solving includes the capability to stop the simulation at any time with mouse button, change parameters (e.g. conductor shapes, voltages) and continue. Online help screens are easily accessible.
