Description: PowerTrace is a sophisticated graphical user interface for use with the particle beam optics program TRACE 3-D. Problem setup and definition are accomplished graphically. Each of the sixteen types of transport elements available in TRACE 3-D, as well as the initial and final beam emittance (Twiss) parameters, are represented by icons on a scrollable palette. The configuration of a beam line is set up visually by selecting and dragging the desired icons to a model window. Parameter values are entered into data windows for each element in the beam line. PowerTrace takes care of setting up arrays and similar bookkeeping. There is a minimal amount of alpha-numeric (keyboard) input used for setting parameter values, and no text or command line input is required. The Electrostatic Palette is an add-on module that includes beam optics modules for einzel lenses, d.c. acceleration columns and electrostatic prisms (deflectors). The version of TRACE 3-D maintained by the Los Alamos Accelerator Code Group is integrated into PowerTrace under a license agreement with the Los Alamos National Laboratory. The PowerTrace application software and add-on modules are based on the Shell for Particle Accelerator Related Codes (S.P.A.R.C.) software technology. The Professional Version includes the complete FORTRAN source code for TRACE 3-D and object code for S.P.A.R.C. so that users can create their own custom versions of PowerTrace.
