Description: The Particle Beam Optics Laboratory (PBO Lab) is a graphic user interface environment developed for use in the design and analysis of particle optics systems and accelerator beam lines. The TRACE 3-D Module requires the PBO Lab 2.1 Basic Package, and provides a fully integrated TRACE 3-D computation engine module. The PBO Lab 2.1 Basic Package is summarized in a separate Product Specification. With the particle beam optics program TRACE 3-D, problem setup and definition are accomplished graphically. Each of the sixteen types of transport elements available in TRACE 3-D, as well as the initial and final beam emittance (Twiss) parameters, are represented by icons on a scrollable palette. The configuration of a beam line is set up visually by selecting and dragging the desired icons to a model window. Parameter values are entered into data windows for each element in the beam line. The TRACE 3-D Module takes care of setting up arrays and similar bookkeeping. There is a minimal amount of alpha-numeric (keyboard) input used for setting parameter values, and no text or command line input is required. Add-on palettes are available, and are described on separate Product Specification sheets. The PBO Lab Basic Package and add-on Application Modules are based on the Multi-Platform Shell for Particle Accelerator Related Codes (S.P.A.R.C. MP) software technology.
